AO Family Reunited: June Workshop

This June, Access Opportunity was able to convene in-person for our week-long June Workshop with staff, volunteers, and over 60 students in attendance.

The AO June Workshop took place from June 13-17, 2022. The first two days of the workshop took place on the Auraria campus in Denver. Throughout each of the two days, each student participated in sessions that applied directly to their grade-level. We had about 20 speakers from different companies and organizations who joined us throughout the beginning of the week. They gave interactive lessons to our students on financial literacy, college admissions, social and emotional health, career readiness, and more.

The classroom portion of the workshop concluded with a speed-networking session with 40+ volunteers from various industries, who spoke to groups of students for over an hour to help them practice their networking skills.

The third day of the workshop began with a trek up to Cal-Wood Outdoor Education Center in the mountains, where students and staff stayed for the remainder of the week. We were able to have an unplugged experience in the wilderness, complete with team-building activities as a group including hiking, campfire s'mores, and more.

It was the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that we were able to hold a week-long student workshop. We were excited to have everyone together in one place, and it proved beneficial and rejuvenating to everyone involved. We can't wait to have more opportunities to come together as a group soon.
