Leslie's interest in helping low-income, high achieving students identify and launch their dream career stems from years of witnessing inequality in the hiring process. She believes internships and post-college jobs shouldn't be accessible only to those lucky enough to 'know someone'. They should be filled with deserving, hard-working candidates who have what it takes to do the job well.
Before joining the team, Leslie worked at some of the advertising industry's leading agencies on brands like Microsoft, Budweiser and Old Navy. One of the highlights of her career was joining Michelle Obama in the fight against childhood obesity, creating a brand for fruits and veggies, targeted at teens.
After 15 years in the ad world, Leslie is excited to apply her diverse corporate, communication and talent management skills in a new way. She's always been passionate about mentoring, developing and enriching the personal and professional lives of those she works with, and is excited to parlay this passion into her new role at Access Opportunity.
Outside of the office, Leslie loves hanging with her hubby and their daughter Leni, riding horses and frankly doing anything outside in the Colorado sunshine (she's originally from Ohio).
Leslie graduated with a BA in Journalism from E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University.
Favorite College Experience: "How do I choose?! College was filled with amazing experiences, but I think some of my favorite memories are from when I joined all the random intramural activities my university offered. Rowing team with a 5AM practice? Why not?! Broomball (exactly how it sounds, but on ice) with 11PM games? Bring it on! I met a ton of new friends, was pushed out of my comfort zone and loved every minute of it."
Advice for High School and College Students: "High school and college are stressful and there's a ton of pressure to 'figure out the rest of your life' during these years. Trust me, it'll all work out. Try and embrace this time of immense growth and change, and ride the wave. Jump on opportunities that come your way, or be proactive and create your own. Ask a ton of questions. Seek out things you're inspired by. Surround yourself with your passions and ENJOY yourself. It goes by so quickly."
Favorite Food: "Anything and everything Thai!"
